In the depths of winter
On one of my walks in December, I took a video of this shivering snowman in our neighbourhood. A lot of people are feeling the cold. (Truthfully, snowmen don’t shiver, but that’s the fun part)
December: Christmas lights in our neighbourhood. We had a White Christmas indeed.
We’ve had many birds at our feeder. Cardinals, male and female; woodpeckers (maybe the same one coming back?); juncos, house finches; blue jays, and more.
Our newest addition to the feeder pole has been pretty popular.
And then we have the squirrels, in the front and back of our home. They’ve learned that they can’t get past the baffle on the pole, but squirrels are crafty. They’ll find a way to gather food, and they’ve done a good job on that. None of them are skinny this winter. They feed on what the birds toss to the ground.
Several weeks ago we had a later family Christmas, as has been the case while my parents were still with us and since. My sister and brother-in-law who live across from our home farm hosted this year. And before we drove off down the road, I asked my daughter to take a photo of our home place in winter.
It’s not our farm anymore, but it’s still in the extended family and the house is well cared for and has a family living there who are enjoying being in the rural area as we did.
Back home again with one more taste of winter as I know it this year.
