We spent Halloween with some of our family members at their home. Our daughter and son-in-law took their two young children out to trick or treat in their community.
This is an event mostly for the children, if costumes in the grocery store are any indication, though I know of some adults who plan a costume party each year so they can dress up too.

I had volunteered to shell out the goods when children came to the door. As I have  done other years, I got into the spirit of the occasion and dressed up too. Here I am as a Christmas tree, wrapped in a garland and with ornaments on my green shirt and holding small jingle bells.
There were costumes of every kind, from hockey players, dancers, animal costumes, ninja turtles, space men to some rather sinister and scary-looking creatures.  Playing along, I asked the children, especially the bigger ones, what trick they had. A few had stories or a riddle, some gave me strange looks, and most just came for the treats.

One of the young girls who came to the door suggested that a star would work well on my head to go with my costume. “Good idea,” I said.  An idea for another year.

The lights in the pumpkins have been extinguished and lights turned out, and most small children will be  home in their beds, while the older ones may still be plotting how to keep their candy to themselves. That’ s it until next October.
