Today was a beautiful day for storytelling in the out of doors.  The  Guelph Guild of Storytellers hosts Tea and Tales at the Enabling Gardens in Guelph’s Riverside Park, Ontario, on Fridays throughout the summer.  Though most tellers are from the Guelph Guild, the group invites other tellers to participate, including the Baden Guild, of which I am a member.

So far, Beve Matson said they’ve had good weather for these events in spite of the cooler and wetter summer this year. She acted as master of ceremonies, opening the session and introducing speakers. Matson hoped she hadn’t spoken too soon as there are still two sessions of the program left for this summer [ 10:30-11:30 am]. Though the audience is mostly seniors, anyone can come to hear stories.

Sandy Schoen and her  daughter Rachel shared the storytelling time with me today. Their story, A Bad Case of  Stripes, by David Shannon, was entertaining and delightful for an audience of any age, and one could see that this mother-daughter duo enjoyed performing together. Eight-year-old Rachel told me she can say the whole story to herself. She was excited to be a part of this event.

Our stories ranged from folk tales and tall tales to personal stories. Our audience was attentive and appreciative, and I hope to tell there again another year. Who knows what the stories will be next time.
