Saturday Snapshot–Steckle Farm and Storytelling
In February 2012, I attended the Steckle Farm Family Fun Event as a guest storyteller. Many things were planned: toboganning on the hills around the farm as well as seeing the animals. Only thing, there was little snow last winter. A few days before, we got snow, and those winter events could go ahead. The staff at the farm were delighted.
The sheep came close to the fence so the children could reach out and ruffle their heavy winter coats.
Two small children I happen to know were attracted to the bunnies in the barn.

Fun on the hills with tobogans and sleds, then hot chocolate afterwards
And me, in between stories, with my coat on. Families kept coming and going at many intervals and the fireplace kept going out. It was so cold outdoors and in the Honey House

Old farms have such wonderful charm, don’t they? I love that stone building – so beautiful.
There are some interesting buildings there, the honey house being one of them. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
What a wonderful winter adventure.
It was a good day for families to do something together.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. 🙂
What a great family event! But … brrr!!!!!
Yes, it was very cold that day, and yet people seemed to be having a good time in spite of it.
Great event for learning about past times♫♪ Here’s my SS: http://lore-eleven.blogspot.com/2013/02/icy-convex-mirror.html
It is a great history lesson, on the spot! Thanks for stopping by. I will get to yours yet.
Those ponies look surprisingly warm! Thanks for the photos!
They do, yes. Amazing fur coats. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
The ponies in the snow is my favourite shot….looks very cold though. Glad I have a hot, steamy summers day to look forward to here today…and a trip to the local pool 🙂
It was very cold. Our breath froze that day. But it was a good day and a lot of people had a lot of fun. Thanks for stopping by.
Do you write short stories for children?
It seems a wonderful combination of winter outdoor activities and story telling inside next to the fireplace for children. And also for adults?
Hi Edgar,
I have written some stories for children. So far I use those in storytelling, but I also tell to adults. The day at the farm, I chose stories for the children, but the adults seemed to enjoy them too. Thanks for asking.
Looks like a lot of fun, but definitely chilly!
It sure was chilly, even indoors when the fire went out. But we had fun. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Great photos! Thanks for sharing them and the story behind them. Sounds like a great way to spend the day! I miss tobogganing!
Thanks, Vicki. We used to have a tobogan. Might have to get one for our grandchildren. Some photos are just better with a bit of story.
What a fun winter event… and I’m sure the children loved it.
