I must say November and participating in NaNoWriMo has been an adventure. Today I was telling a fellow writer about a friend who asked me if I would ever write a novel. That was a few years ago. I said I didn’t know, since up to that point everything I wrote was short pieces—op-eds, articles, book reviews, inspirational and devotional pieces. Children’s stories and one early feature for LifeCanada News were the longest pieces so far.

Nanowrimo, as I said in the first blog piece back in early November, is a seat-of-the-pants on the chair way of getting stuff written. For those who like to edit as they go, thirty days would be a pretty tight run at the goal. Knowing that we didn’t have to worry about quality helped free me  and others to get the words written.

There may be a few madly finishing the challenge, going until midnight to complete it. I wish them well, since a challenge is a challenge and accepting it means going for the finish line, not always like the hare, but plodding along like Aesop’s turtle at times.

December is for editing, we were told, however, I think I will do my Christmas shopping and then I’ll have more distance to see my work for what it is, requiring a lot of editing work.

Let’s cheer those who still need to cross the finish line yet!
