Silver Dart Lodge, Baddeck, Cape Breton– consider it

If you’re travelling in Cape Breton, consider the Silver Dart Lodge in Baddeck. The rooms are clean and comfortable, some recently renovated. The dining room offers an excellent view of the lake,  the waiters were friendly and the food was of excellent quality. We stayed in the East Lodge and found it very comfortable.

When we arrived, planning to tour the Cabot Trail the next day, we received a package of information suggesting  places we could stop and take pictures. Since we enjoy photography, we decided to search out as many  of the suggested places as possible. As a result, some of our photos are on their computer in an ever-changing display.

We were also able to get a packed lunch for our travels. We picked up  our prepared lunches on our last morning there and enjoyed them later that morning as we waited for the PEI ferry. The cook makes the most delicious oatcakes.  Those were included in our packed lunch. WishI had that recipe. Yumm!

If you’re going to Baddeck and planning to tour Cape Breton, the Silver Dart Lodge is a great place to stay.

    Our Oatcakes are loved by many people, and we love sharing the recipe!

    Silver Dart Lodge Oatcakes

    3 Cups Flour
    3 Cups rolled Oats
    1 Cup Margarine
    1 Cup Shortening
    1 Cup white Sugar
    1 Tsp Salt
    1 tsp Baking Soda
    1/2 cup water

    pre-heat oven to 400 degrees
    Mix dry Ingredients
    Cut in Margarine and shortening
    Add Water (dough should be a bit sticky)
    Roll out on floured surface and cut into 2 inch squares
    Place squares onto ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 15 minutes at 400 degrees

      My husband took most of the photos on this holiday. I thought he captured a lot of great views. I’ll tell him.
      I don’t know if the McNeil House is connected in anyway to Rita McNeil, singer from the island. Perhaps someone from the Silver Dart Lodge can answer that. My understanding it that Rita is from Big Pond.

  3. Now you’ve done it! I want to go back to visit the Maritimes again. I also appreciate those photos. The waterfalls photograph (great pictures) reminds me of Rattling Brook in Newfoundland.
