No man is an island-John Donne
Today, as I stop to reflect on what I hope to achieve, I also ponder my accomplishments in the past weeks and months. I am also reminded that I am not alone in my accomplishments. Neither am I alone in grief when my friend dies.
I am not alone as I go from one day to the next. I have a husband, children, grandchild, friends, neighbours, and friends not just in the city where I live, but across the continent, in Canada and the US.
John Donne declared that no man is an island. It’s as true now as it was in Donne’s time. While we might feel beyond early times, more advanced than pioneers, our “stuff” often gets in the way and we lose sight of what’s most important.
We are all a part of the world in which we live, the family that gave us our beginnings, the community that watched us grow, even helped us along. We are part of something infinitely more— part of God’s creation.
So if your day is not going well, or even if it is, remember you are not alone. You are loved.
