Baby quilt is ready at last
A few days ago, the baby quilt lay across my ironing board in my sewing room, almost ready. Our granddaughter arrived before it was done, so I had some work to do. While we awaited word from our daughter and son-in-law about when they’d be going home, I got to work. I turned on the sewing machine and stitched the last lines around the border. It was so close. I took out basting threads and gave the quilt a washing. It’s ready for the crib now.
Evy had to stay an extra night in the hospital to spend some time under the lights, but now mother, father and baby are home. Evy’s parents, Dave and Laura, are beginning the adjustment to having a new little one to care for. Apparently their black labs, Buddy and Paris, are excited about the new arrival too, being protective of her already.
Evy’s using those gifts that they were given, the essential baby equipment, sleepers, blankets and diapers. It won’t be long, I’m guessing, before they wonder how it was before her arrival. Furniture and baby gear fill the house.
We’ll celebrate Evy’s birth and Sarah’s birthday together as a family today, and every year after this, the two will celebrate their birthdays together. When we leave their home this evening, the quilt will be in place in the crib, ready for a small girl to snuggle under for her daytime naps and night-time sleeps.
I just LOVE this quilt! It makes me laugh and cry at the same time – laugh at those sweet, comical animals, and tear up at the love that is so obviously in every stitch to welcome Evy. Wow.
Plus, one of the books I am writing (set aside for now, but I’ll get back to it) is about a woman who quilts – and I thought I didn’t know any! Now I know who to come to with a quilting question! Great post, Carolyn!
Thanks for stopping by, Judith, and for your gracious comments. I like to quilt panels and am just starting to machine quilt. Ask away and if I can answer a question, I will.
Congratulations Carolyn. How exciting Grandma! It’s a lovely place to be – speaking from experience! The quilt is absolutely gorgeous. What a multi talented person you are. Blessings and joy! x
Glad you stopped by, Glynis.
When I gave the quilt to Laura yesterday, she was very pleased with it. Thanks.
