Books, books and more books

Then I looked further. The living room table is mostly books. The library bag is stuffed to the gills.
Read the rest here.
Sandy and her family’s collection of books looks a little like mine but without the toys and crafts.
Though many of my books are in dedicated bookshelves upstairs and down, there are always the ones that aren’t. Books on my nightstand in my current reading pile. Library books when I have them. Books on the coffee table that I browse when I’m not working.
Reference books in my office are a collection of style guides, dictionaries and thesauri, binders of notes from various classes and workshops. I also read poetry, mysteries, historical fiction, and books about writing. After Write!Canada this year, I finally finished reading Anne Lamott’s Bird by Bird and two new fiction books.
But there’s also another shelf atop a desk that will need emptying when the second desk in my office gets moved to another room in our home. Where will I put those books … in a new bookshelf?
Actually, it’s Sandy S or CricketB (yes, I’ve admitted the inevitable, and am now one person with two names).
I’ll allow you that double name, Sandy. What other names can we come up with? 🙂
The books abound here too, so much so that I’ve begun to — gasp — cull them. It’s like I used to say to the kids when they outgrew their toys: if you’re not going to play with (in my case “read”) them anymore, why not take them somewhere where someone else can enjoy them? Give them a new home?
I haven’t been too ruthless about this. There are still reference books in each office, a wall of bookshelves downstairs, 4 bookcases upstairs plus the books under my bed and scattered around my room…
One thing I’ve started doing to raise awareness of Canadian Christian authors is to read those books extra-carefully and then give them away on my blog. Sharing is good.
Thanks, Joanna. Culling books is a good thing, one that would make another post someday.
I know what you mean! My bedroom has a lot of books in it and I hardly have anyplace to put them. I can’t wait to redecorate my room then I will have more room to put my books!! :p
Hi Amanda,
Great project idea!
So glad you stopped by. We’re both book lovers, I think. I’ve recently read a speech called “William Lyon Phelps Praises Owning a Library” that was broadcast in April 1933.
His library contained 6, 000 books. His answer to people’s question if he had read them all: “Some of them twice.” Wonder what kind of books he liked to read best.
Keep on blogging, Amanda. I’ll come back and check your blog again.
